Sebastian Schlecht
lala.ruhr
Sebastian is an architect and urbanist. He is the founder of lala.ruhr and leads the thematic cluster for green cities and regions at Baukultur NRW. Until 2022, he was responsible for the project management of the European Green Capital 2017 for the city of Essen and represented the city in the Urban Transitions Alliance. He has international expertise in green urban development issues and their interaction with mobility and climate. He is also a representative of Citymakers Europe-China, a member of JAS e.V. and teaches at various universities.
Melanie Kemner

Melanie is co-founder of lala.ruhr and an expert in marketing and implementing regional formats. After the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010, she worked as a self-employed cultural manager and communications consultant, among others for Ruhr Tourismus GmbH and the Regionalverband Ruhr, the Pixelprojekt_Ruhrgebiet and the Zollverein Foundation. She was head of marketing for the European Green Capital - Essen 2017. Melanie is also co-founder of c/o raum für kooperation and the consultancy TEAM i.
Isabella de Medici
DTP Landschaftsarchitekten GmbH
Isabella is a landscape architect and partner in the planning office DTP Landschaftsarchitekten GmbH. She has a teaching position at the FH Dortmund and is a judge in various competitions. Isabella is also a specialist spokesperson for open space planning and a member of the board of the BDLA NRW.
Annette Bathen
Die Urbanisten e.V.
Annette studied philosophy and political science at the TU Dortmund University. Her academic focus is on cooperative politics at the local level, the role of civil society in political processes and the development of urban living spaces. Annette has been working for Urbanisten e.V. since 2017 and is part of the managing core team.
Jan Bunse
Die Urbanisten e.V.
Jan studied spatial planning and human geography in Dortmund and Nijmegen (NL) with a focus on allocation concepts for spaces in community disposal. He is a member of the management board at die Urbanisten e.V. and is active in project work: Participation projects with young people, neighbourhood development through creative industries, urban gardening/farming, digital urban development and project manager for 'Community Urban Production' in the BMBF research association UrbaneProduktion.ruhr.
Sonja Broy
Specialist journalist & social scientist.
Sonja studied specialized journalism as well as urban culture, society and space. She works in the conception and realisation of dialogue and participation formats in open space planning with the DTP office, as a moderator and tour guide, as well as in project management and as a seminar leader in the art and culture sector for public welfare-oriented neighbourhood development with the KITEV association.
Matthias Krentzek

Matthias is a creative entrepreneur based in Gelsenkirchen-Ückendorf; his network of customers and partners is rooted in the Metropole Ruhr. In recent years he has successfully founded several companies and initiatives, including the Places _ VR Festival. He knows how to realise creative ideas, to combine familiar approaches in new ways and to look for solutions off the beaten track.
Dr. Juliane von Hagen

Juliane hat Architektur in Aachen und Urban Planning an der Columbia University in New York City studiert und ihre Promotion in Aachen absolviert. Seit 1999 arbeitet sie freiberuflich in Städtebau und Stadtplanung in Praxis, Forschung und Lehre sowie als Fachjournalistin unter anderem mit Fokus Landschaftsarchitektur. 2011 gründete sie das Büro stadtforschen.de.
Sally Below
sbca
Sally consults and accompanies local authorities and institutions in challenging development and cultural projects, develops communication and discourse formats and, together with various partners, also realises her own ideas for the city. She is particularly interested in conveying attitudes and perspectives and changing spaces. For the operative implementation of concepts, Sally Below founded the sbca office in Berlin in 1999.
Roman Pilgrim

Roman Pilgrim is a freelance artist and creator of the Places _ VR Festival, the first freely accessible VR festival in Germany. As the founder of Insane Urban Cowboys e.V., he has built a network around him that attracts attention nationwide. This year, the association received an award from Creative.NRW for its activities as a creative space.
Stephanie Stiehm
Intern at lala.ruhr
Stephanie studies geography at the Ruhr-University Bochum. After a bachelor's degree in mitigation and adaptation to climate change, she is pursuing a master's degree in urban and landscape ecology. She is the first intern at lala.ruhr and also works as a student assistant in the research group "Environmental Analysis and Planning in Metropolitan Areas" of Prof. Dr. Christian Albert.
Johannes Zell
Johannes studied landscape architecture at the University of Kassel and works at the interface of (landscape) architecture and communication. He has been working for Förder Landschaftsarchitekten in Essen for several years, where he is responsible for marketing and public relations. His work includes both digital and analogue projects from conception to implementation.
Martina Nies

Martina holds a degree in geography and is an expert in co-creative processes and participation formats. Through professional stations in business development, economic and political consulting as well as science & research, she has a flair for different perspectives. She works freelance under her label herdenintelligenz and teaches as a freelance lecturer at the University of Duisburg-Essen. At the Inititative für Nachhaltigkeit e.V. she develops and accompanies collaborative projects such as the Fachgeschäft für Stadtwandel and the network Gemeinsam für Stadtwandel.
Nadja Grizzo
Editing & Consulting Culture
Since 2011, Nadja has been providing advice and support to cities all over Europe in matters of culture and in their bid for the title of "European Capital of Culture". Culture is also her favourite topic in her work as a freelance editor and proofreader. A lot has happened since she joined the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 team: all over Europe, she meets more and more people who care about green and blue infrastructure, urban landscape and biodiversity - and who effortlessly integrate all this into their concept of culture.
Johannes Baum

Johannes is a self-employed event manager (IHK) and qualified event manager (IST). The combination of commercial training and years of work in technical event areas makes him an experienced interface between the trades. He plans and manages a wide variety of productions and events and ensures smooth implementation - in the Metropole Ruhr, among others, at the European Green Capital - Essen 2017, European Mobility Week and Extraschicht.
